Help starts with the right next step.

All intake requests must go through the Intake Department. The rescue is foster-based, so a local foster must be secured before an animal can enter the program.

Public Fancy Footwork gives you and the dog a chance to practice leash skills, work around distractions, and arrive better prepared for the intake process.

Before you submit

What the intake team needs you to know.

Dog-intake requirements
  • Current DHPP vaccine before an intake appointment
  • A minimum two-week quarantine
  • No history of animal or dog aggression
  • Forms are reviewed within three business days.
  • Appointment slots are limited and must be confirmed promptly.
  • Dogs receive a behavior assessment before medical evaluation.
  • Adult dogs must pass assessment with adult dogs.
  • Medical cases are reviewed through the Medical team.
  • You must be able to foster locally until adoption.
  • Some cases may require fundraising support.
  • The team contacts applicants only when the animal is eligible.

Dogs must receive the DHPP vaccine before an intake appointment because they will be evaluated around other dogs. Adult dogs must pass a behavioral assessment with adult dogs, and the rescue contacts applicants only when the submitted animal is eligible for the program.
